CSO’s 25/26 Season Finale: Rhapsody in Red, White & Blue Featuring Grammy-award winning pianist Michelle Cann
Cheyenne Symphony Orchestra’s season-ending concert Rhapsody in Red, White & Blue, April 11th, 2026, at 7:30 pm at the Cheyenne Civic Center features an eclectic selection of Americana music sure to get you in the mood for the upcoming 250th Anniversary celebration! First up is the world premiere of American Patriot Hymn by Composer-in-Residence Jeff Lippencott, followed by Duke Ellington’s musical depiction of 1950’s Harlem. Grammy Award-winning pianist Michelle Cann will feature on Price’s Piano Concerto in One Movement and Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue.
The concert will kick off with the highly anticipated world premiere of American Patriot Hymn, composed and conducted by CSO’s Composer-in-Residence Jeff Lippencott. CSO Music Director and Conductor, William Intriligator, explains, “This stirring piece, featuring text from our Founding Fathers, will be performed by the orchestra, a chorus comprised of the Cheyenne Chamber Singers and UW Collegiate Choral, and narrator Dan Geldert, making it a poignant tribute to America’s heritage.”
Following the premiere, attendees will enjoy Duke Ellington’s jazz masterpiece Harlem, a vibrant composition that brings the sounds of 1950’s Harlem to life with the addition of five soaring saxophones. This dynamic piece promises to “take listeners on an imaginative journey through one of New York’s most iconic neighborhoods,” says Maestro Intriligator.
After intermission, world-class pianist Michelle Cann will grace the stage for her Cheyenne debut. A two-time Grammy Award winner, Cann is known for her exceptional talent and has performed with leading orchestras globally. Maestro Intriligator elaborates, “She will present two incredible concertos: Florence Price’s Piano Concerto in One Movement, a deeply expressive work, and George Gershwin’s timeless Rhapsody in Blue. This renowned American classic will be a highlight of the evening, showcasing Cann’s extraordinary skill alongside the CSO.”
