2025 Make Me the Maestro Winner, Tammy Bauman’s Conducting Debut

In September, the CSO announced the winner of our third Make Me the Maestro fundraising campaign: Tammy Bauman! After taking numerous lessons with Maestro Intriligator and receiving her own baton, Tammy is ready for her conducting debut. We are excited to welcome her as she leads Leroy Anderson’s holiday classic, Sleigh Ride.

Sleigh Ride was originally recorded as an instrumental piece. The lyrics, which describe riding in a sleigh and enjoying other wintertime activities, were written by Mitchell Parish in 1950. The orchestral version was first recorded in 1949 by Arthur Fiedler and the Boston Pops Orchestra. Over the years, many artists have recorded this beloved piece, including Herb Alpert, The Andrews Sisters, The Carpenters, Bing Crosby, Ella Fitzgerald, Debbie Gibson, The Muppets, and Andy Williams.

Interestingly, Sleigh Ride, one of Anderson’s most iconic Christmas songs, was written during a heat wave. Anderson is particularly known for his lifelong association with the Boston Pops. Other notable pieces he composed for the Boston Pops and Arthur Fiedler include Bugler’s Holiday, Syncopated Clock,and The Typewriter.
