Tchaikovsky Celebration
September 19, 2009 • 7:30 pm
Tchaikovsky • Violin Concerto in D Major
Tchaikovsky • Symphony No. 6 in B Minor, Pathetique
One composer, two beloved musical masterpieces. These two works show many different sides of Tchaikovsky’s emotional world. From tender melodies to rousing marches, from virtuosic high jinks to ominous foreboding. The violin concerto comes from a happy time in the composer’s life, whereas the symphony comes from his dark final days. Violinist Michael Ludwig joins the CSO for this concert. The legendary pianist Van Cliburn has described him as “a musician of profound artistry and consummate integrity, Michael Ludwig possesses a gorgeous sound which he projects with heartfelt passion and intensity.”
