Sibelius • Finlandia
Schubert • Symphony No. 8 in B Minor, Unfinished
Dvořák • Cello Concerto in B Minor
Sibelius wrote Finlandia as an expression of national pride in an effort to gain Finnish independence. Its rousing and striking themes, however, resonate within the hearts of people of all countries. Schubert’s lovely Unfinished Symphony has not been played by the CSO for many years, and it is hauntingly beautiful. Our guest artist, cellist Zuill Bailey, is a real star among cellists. With dashing looks, wonderful musical technique, and even HBO acting credits in his background, it’s no wonder he gives powerful and memorable performances. Join us and hear him play what many consider to be the greatest of all cello concertos.
